Professional bio
Pieter obtained his degree in Industrial Engineering in Electronics at the Katholieke Hogeschool Brugge-Oostende in 1998 with the topic of video interlacing in progressive scanning displays and his Master's in Computer Sciences degree at the Ghent University in 2000 working on MRI image segmentation.
He began working with MRI under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Rik Achten supporting multiple PhD students with fMR data acquisition and analysis. Pieter built the fMRI lab from the ground up by by developing and acquiring hardware and software. He also created research software tools and data analysis pipelines which were widely used over lab members. Over the years, the lab relocated, giving him the opportunity to develop a fully equipped psychophysiological laboratory which he now manages.
Pieter also collaborates with external partners like the HPC team to investigate tools to extend CORE GIfMI services. He also supports teaching and is a lecturer at the Doctorol Schools voor Basic and Advanced MRI.
Pieter was involved in the startup of GIfMI and has since been part of the GIfMI team.
As the support engineer of CORE GIfMI, Pieter is responsible for all technical aspects, data management, providing development services and support to facility users. He is also a an active member of the management team.
