Professional bio

Eline Lievens is an Assistant Professor of Exercise Physiology and Sports Nutrition, affiliated with the Department of Movement and Sports Sciences at Ghent University (UGent).

During her doctoral research, she optimized a non-invasive technique to estimate muscle fiber type using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy of carnosine. She applied this technique to investigate the importance of muscle fiber type in sports.

Her new research lines focus, among other topics, on the role of muscle fiber type in the development of cardiometabolic disorders. Her work contributes to a deeper understanding of the role of muscle fiber types in both athletic performance and preventive healthcare.
