Guy Vingerhoets

Professional bio

Guy is a clinical psychologist who graduated from Ghent University in 1985. He subsequently trained as a clinical neuropsychologist at Ghent University Hospital. In 1995, he earned his PhD in Psychology, focusing on the cognitive consequences of open-heart surgery.

During the 1990s, he became involved in emerging neuroimaging techniques, particularly functional MRI and functional transcranial Doppler ultrasonography. Over time, his research shifted toward fundamental studies on the functional neuroanatomy of language and praxis.

In 2001, he was appointed assistant professor of neuropsychology at Ghent University's Faculty of Medicine, where he contributed to neuropsychological assessments and clinical research on various neurological disorders, including epilepsy, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and stroke. His research also explored the cognitive effects of cardiac and vascular interventions.

In 2011, he was appointed full professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences, where he focused on brain asymmetry and its behavioral implications in both healthy individuals and clinical or atypical populations.

Guy has served on the boards of the International Neuropsychological Society and the Federation of European Societies of Neuropsychology.
